About Me

I’m a Portuguese chap living in Dubai, in his late thirties, that back in 2009 discovered a passion for Running, and more recently for Triathlon. The name “Flying Tuga” comes from the fact that when I changed role in 2006, I spent more weeks traveling than the ones I was at home (hence the "Flying"), while “Tuga” is a short nickname for Portuguese.

On Dec 26th 2009, my scale told me I was 101kgs (or 222 lbs), and this was the first time I’ve reached the 3 digits mark and a big wake-up call. I decided that this had to stop, and I started running. Since then, I’ve run several half marathons, one full Marathon in Dubai, and due to the injury I got doing it, I’ve started swimming and cycling to keep the fitness level. From there to my first triathlon, I just needed a little bit of a push, and that's how I got addicted.

I’m now almost 20 kgs lighter, and I’ve changed my lifestyle completely, in terms of sports, food habits, and also work related (time management, work-life balance,  stress managemetn, etc.). I have a passion for sharing my knowledge with others and helping them achieve a more balanced life, so if you want help or to know more about my personal experience, just let me know.

My sports goals for 2012 are to complete Ironman 70.3 Salzburg and Ironman 70.3 Phuket, and eventually a Half Marathon sub 1:40h. For 2013, to complete a full Ironman and a Marathon sub 4:00h.
